Alexander stimulates historical work on Ancient Greece with six contrasting songs with piano accompaniment and narration. The lyrics, narration and choir parts are in the separate Pupil's Book. The accompanying CD has a demonstration of the songs, along with a non-vocal version for rehearsing and performing to. Approximate duration as a song cycle: 18 minutes.
This work can also be extended into a longer presentation, making it a vehicle for developing performing, literary and visual arts (eg. Incorporate simple drama written and devised by the pupils themselves; expand the narration with pupils' prose and poetry; opportunities can be found for displaying related art and craft work).
