Pepys' Show - By Debbie Campbell
Product Description
Extracts from Samuel Pepys' diary bring the swinging 1660s to life. Beggars on rat-infested streets celebrate the Restoration of King Charles II alongside aristocrats flaunting themselves, despite the vermin lurking beneath their fine clothes. Personal hygene hasn't been invented yet!
But, as the Puritans predict, this will all lead to no good. In 1665 the Plague returns with a vengeance, claiming 100,000 lives - 20% of the city's population - followed by the Great Fire of 1666 which destroys much of the City. But all this will lead to a cleaner, safer London designed by Christopher Wren.
Eleven distinctive songs, lively dances and an entertaining script with evenly distributed parts and plenty of choruses for younger pupils to join in make Pepys’ Show ideal for primary schools and Youth Theatre (ages 7 to 14). Ideal cast size 25 to 40.
